For a game that was strongly hyped, God of War really pays off. Let's break it down in order to see why Sony's reinvention of Greek mythology works: I. The script: Unlike some previous games, the script for God of War is actually quite innovative. Was it the most absolutely original script on the block? No. But it is still utterly engrossing and doesn't let the player down with cheesy lines that make you roll your eyes. There are twists, most of which a veteran film viewer will see coming. Still, the script is better than the average game. II. The design: This game is gorgeous. If you have the ability to play the game with a widescreen and progressive scan than it is truly awe-inspiring and shows the overall power (to the limits) of the Playstation 2. When Kratos is standing on cliff over-looking Athens, the designers show how well they did their research. III. The acting: Unlike a previous poster, I believe the voice acting to be better than most games. Is it on par with the Metal Gear series? No. Still, it is better than a lot of the games out there. Linda Hunt's voice is pitch perfect for the narrator and even minimal roles suchArtemis (played by Claudia Black of all people) are done with such effectiveness that you see why video games are being turned into films. IV. The overall experience: OK, it's true that there is nudity throughout the game. Is it tastefully done? Yes. Once again, with the costumes and locales,the designers obviously researched which is why the men and women of the game are dressedthey are. It's obvious from the label (marked M here in the US) that the game has violence and nudity. If you don't like that kind of thing, then don't play the game. Overall, the game is truly engrossing and very fun. If you've had a hard day at work and need to blow off steam, this game really does the trick. The only real problem with the game is it's length. Once you finish the game, you'll find you want to play it again in the newly opened "God" mode in order to unlock the other movies and hear the secret message (so worth it too). When all is said and done, you'll find that finishing the game twice only takes about 13 hours. For a hardcore gamer, that's not a long time. This game is awesome. Thanks David Jaffe. The last game I really enjoyed on the PS2 was Metal Gear Solid 3. I loved everything about it, mainly the game-play, graphics, and story. Since then, I've bombarded with a series boring and bland titles. When will something good come out?!<br/><br/>Luckily, something good did come out; but I wasn't there on the game's release. I was a bit skeptical about God of War because there have been a few Sony games in the past with a bunch of hype that didn't live up to the hype. However, GOW is completely different. After hearing the reviews for God of War and finding it for only $32.99 on Outpost; I had to give it a try.<br/><br/>Boy was I amazed!<br/><br/>The graphics are outstanding and the controls are very easy to play. Anyone can pick up this game and have fun. That's what I love about it because I don't really have much time to get too involved with a 'tedious' game.<br/><br/>Hardcore gamers might complain about the game being too easy, not having enough replay value, or it being too short. I, on the other hand, embrace it for the same reasons. I loved the story, graphics, and gameplay; it was an excellent game.<br/><br/>Graphics: 10, beautiful in HD Game-play: 9, easy-yet fun Sound: 10, just awesome w/ loud speakers Story: 9, very entertaining Overall: 9.7

Since the game is pretty violent, it faced some problems for the European release - therefore it had to be censored a little bit. For instance in the sacrifice cutscene the soldier was repleaced by a zombie in the European version and therefore the scene isn't that crude in the European Version.
